Dog Driven Handling

What role do we play during the game of Nose Work with our dogs?

Have you noticed that when transitioning from food searches to target odours, your dog slows down, focusses more on you, or loses some of the joy in the search?

In this full-day workshop, John Sam will guide us through Dog Driven Handling, a way of working that puts the dog’s natural hunting ability at the centre of the search. Drawing on ideas from Sue Sternberg and Dana Zinn, John will explore how our body language affects the dog during a search and how small movements can support or hinder the dog’s natural hunt drive.

The goal is to increase awareness of our non-verbal communication and how shifting our handling approach can encourage greater independence, joy, and enthusiasm in our dogs during Nose Work.

This workshop is suitable for all teams, regardless of working level. If you’re passionate about making the search game as clear, rewarding, and dog-centered as possible, this workshop is for you!
