John Sam - Owner & Trainer
Amy has shared her life with dogs for as long as she can remember, but her journey into dog training and then scent work truly began when a tiny bundle of chaos named Comet arrived.
Comet came into her world fearful and anxious, struggling to cope in that big, overwhelming human environment. Outside the home, Comet communicated the only way he knew how — with his teeth. Inside, he was playful, affectionate, and full of joy. Like many guardians of complex dogs, Amy found herself excluded from many of the activities dog owners are told they should be able to enjoy together.
With a background in horse training, Amy knew there had to be a better way. During that search, Amy discovered K9 Nose Work® and started training alongside John. From the very first class, everything changed. Scent work allowed Comet to tap into his natural instincts, helping him find calm, confidence, and purpose in that big world that once overwhelmed him.
Today, Amy and Comet are successfully trialing in scent work games, building a partnership grounded in trust and communication. Comet’s younger sisters, Cricket and Bowie, have since joined the fun and are following closely in his pawprints.
While Amy enjoys the time spent trialing, for her, the most meaningful changes are often the quiet ones — confidence growing, stress easing, and dogs learning that they are capable.
Amy became a qualified dog trainer in 2019 through the National Dog Trainers Federation. She is a strong advocate for effective, ethical training and is committed to lifelong learning, regularly attending courses, seminars, and workshops to stay current in an ever-evolving field.
While Amy continues to support clients with behaviour modification and obedience training, her heart lies in creating safe, inclusive spaces where all dogs — especially those who don’t fit the traditional mould — can access the fun, enrichment, and connection that scent work provides.
At the core of Amy’s work is a simple belief: every dog and human team deserves the chance to experience confidence, connection, and joy — and scent work is one of the most powerful ways to build it.
